Computer scientist (M/F)

To support the activities of the Planetary Aeronomy division, we are looking for a Computer scientist (M/F).

The candidate will be in charge of further developing and maintaining the software tools associated to the data pipeline of the NOMAD instrument, from Level 0 (raw uncalibrated) up to the highest level (scientific products).

These tools are a combination of C/C++, Python, Matlab programming languages. The applications will need to be run on a High Performance Computing System (HPC) available on the Space Pole.

COMPUTER SCIENTIST (M/F)

to strengthen the satellite activities of the UV-vis DOAS team.

The successful candidate will:

  • be in charge of further developing and maintaining the software tools in place at BIRA-IASB for the level 1-2 data analysis of satellite UV-Visible atmospheric chemistry missions
  • use a combination of C/C++, Fortran, Python and Bash programming languages.
  • evolve in a highly collaborative working environment.
  • contribution to the generation of long-term climate data records (CDRs)

The candidate will hold a Master or doctoral degree in engineering, computing science or sciences (mathematics, physics, or applied sciences).

Internship “Development of a Mobile-DOAS Viewer”.

The Belgian Institute for Space Aeronomy is looking for a student to develop a server with webinterface for near real-time map visualization of mobileDOAS measurements of trace gas concentrations such as NO2. This could be done in the framework of a thesis or internship.

The BIRA-IASB Aeromobil is a mobile remote sensing instrument, developed to measure trace gas concentrations which are strongly linked to air quality/pollution.

Candidate profile:

  • Bachelor or Master study – ICT option
  • A general interest in atmospheric chemistry/physics, air quality and/or geoscience is an asset

SPACE PROJECT COORDINATOR

To support the activities of the ALTIUS/PICASSO team, we are looking for a SPACE PROJECT COORDINATOR (M/F)

The successful candidate will:

  • Support the project management of the ALTIUS mission at BIRA-IASB level under the supervision of the current project manager
  • Interact with ESA, BELSPO and the involved industrial partners
  • Collaborate to the development of the ALTIUS instrument
  • Promote the ALTIUS mission (via content of the ALTIUS Web portal, participation to general public events and international scientific meetings…)

The candidate will hold a master degree in Fundamental or Applied Sciences and must display an interest for the observation of the Earth by satellite remote sensing and/or for related environmental aspects.
